Aaron Rai will head into next month’s Open Championship having made the cut at his past six majors. The Wolverhampton-born former Shropshire & Herefordshire junior continued his recent excellent form at golf’s biggest four tournaments by finishing in a tie for 33rd at the US Open over the weekend. That result means Rai has been in the top 40 of five of the past six majors - the outlier being last year's Open, where he made the cut but faded to a tie of 75th.

Sir John Bayley may have made it a perfect 10 at the start of the Shropshire Premier Bowling League season, but they are playing catch-up. That is because title rivals Castlefields and Wrockwardine Wood took advantage of their extra games last midweek to leapfrog Bayley at the summit, despite both having suffered two defeats this campaign. New leaders Castlefields backed up their 10-2 (245-137) victory at Horsehay by winning 9-3 (225-182) at Adderley two days later.

Two football coaches who are also helping their players lose weight have been recognised at a national awards ceremony. Callum Nicholls and David Wright - the coach and assistant coach at the Kidderminster-based branch of MAN v FAT - have been named the national coach and assistant coach of the year, respectively. MAN v FAT is a weight loss initiative that aims to help overweight men lose unwanted weight through weekly football and lifestyle coaching sessions.

Shrewsbury Rugby Club will reach new heights in memory of former player Neil Williams, who passed away from motor neurone disease (MND). Players, coaches, supporters and staff from the club — including from the 1st and 2nd XVs, women’s teams, colts, and non-playing supporters — will attempt to climb nine of Shropshire’s most iconic hills within 24 hours on Saturday (June 7), raising funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
