The assisted dying legislation which passed its first parliamentary hurdle at Holyrood on Tuesday “devalues human life”, a leading Catholic Bishop has said. John Keenan, the Bishop of Paisley and the President of the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland, expressed his “sadness” that MSPs backed the general principles of the Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill. Proposed by Lib Dem MSP Liam McArthur, the Bill will go forward for further scrutiny in the Scottish Parliament.

The man, who has not been named, was airlifted to hospital moments after the 2-0 victory over Congleton Town in front of nearly 5,000 spectators at Keys Par on May 3. Hednesford Town said the supporter remained in hospital and was"stable, talking and joking with his wife". The club took to social media network X to thank fans for their "quick thinking and kindness", alongside the on-site medical team, the ambulance service, the police and Midlands Air Ambulance.

ITV is to air its first ever crossover between Coronation Street and Emmerdale, with fans able to vote for the characters they would like to see meet and interact. The hour-long crossover episode will air in January 2026 as ITV and STV announce a new hour of soap schedule, which will see half hour Emmerdale episodes air at 8pm, followed by 30-minute episodes of Coronation Street at 8.30pm.

Severn Trent said it would be doing "everything possible" to ensure that there is no need to impose a hosepipe ban in the region for the first time in more than 30 years. However, the company has called for customers to be "water-wise" with hot and dry weather continuing. It comes as the water level at Severn Trent's reservoirs is more than 13 percentage points lower than the two previous years with the water level at 81.7 per cent of capacity.

The prosecution case against Peter Sullivan hinged on a combination of now-discredited bite mark and circumstantial evidence. Then aged 29, he had been drinking at a pub 10 minutes away from where Diane Sindall was viciously murdered in an alleyway in Bebington Merseyside on August 1 1986. Eyewitnesses, who later failed to pick him out in an identification process, also said they saw him at Bidston Hill where clothing and a handbag belonging to Miss Sindall were found burned after her death.
