    An aggressive dog in Naujaat that was euthanized after it attacked other dogs has tested positive for rabies, according to the Nunavut Department of Health on April 11. Anyone whose dog that was bitten by the canine in question should call the regional environmental health officer at 867-645-6660 or 867-473-1995. Any person who was bitten or scratched by a fox or a dog is encouraged to go to the local health centre and report the incident immediately, the Department of Health stated.

    Although the Diavik diamond mine is only about a year away from ceasing production, the site continues to produce extraordinary gems. One of the largest gem-quality yellow diamonds ever discovered in Canada — 158.2 carats — was extracted at Diavik recently. In the mine's 22-year history, only five yellow diamonds weighing more than 100 carats have been unearthed. Yellow diamonds make up less than one per cent of Diavik's production with the bulk being white gems, according to owner Rio Tinto.

    The federal and Alberta governments are providing up to $887,170 to Fortune Minerals to support metallurgical test work at the company’s NICO cobalt-gold-bismuth-copper project, 160 km northwest of Yellowknife, it was announced Tuesday. The Government of Canada’s funding contribution will be a maximum of $714,500 for Fortune Minerals’ planned cobalt sulphate process pilot and other metallurgical test work.
