    LaToya Lawrence was found dead in a car with a gunshot wound in Scotland Neck in 2021. Her car had crashed. LaToya’s mother Joyce Lawrence rushed to the scene, where an officer promised to find her daughter’s killer. “[The officer] said to me, 'We're not going to rest tonight until we get him,'” Joyce Lawrence recalled. Four years later, the people believed to be involved in LaToya’s death no longer face charges.

    The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill community is mourning the loss of Domminick “Nick” Vetell, the school’s previous assistant strength and conditioning coach for Olympic sports. Vetell died early Friday morning in a car crash, according to an obituary posted on the Boles Funeral Home website. He was 32. “Nick touched countless lives with his strength, kindness and unwavering spirit,” an Instagram post from Tar Heel Strength.
