This week, Virginians will celebrate the bees, butterflies, birds, and bats that perform the vital work of pollination, following Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s declaration of the week of June 17-23 as Virginia Pollinator Week. “Pollinators play a critical role in our ecosystems,” said Ed Olsen, Virginia Cooperative Extension consumer horticulture specialist and director of the Extension Master Gardener program, who sought the declaration.

Don’t panic: Although there’s been recent media hype about a rare cicada double-brood emerging this spring, most parts of Virginia will not see any periodical cicadas. Starting in late April, Virginians living south of Caroline and east of the Interstate 95 corridor should begin looking for the emergence of Brood XIX, a population of 13-year periodical cicadas produced from eggs laid in 2011.

Recently, my email inbox has been filled by the RD of Dom emailing us residents about the conditions of the restrooms, which have drastically deteriorated. Someone has defecated in the showers. Yes, defecated. Now, under normal circumstances, the perpetrator would be found out, but it is what it is. This along with a few other incidents, contributes to the filthiness of Dom. Dominic Hall has had the dirty-Dom moniker for generations of students.

As college students, we are flooded with emails everyday. Some are important in some form or another, like a professor emailing the class about an important update. Yet, other emails we receive are not important at all, and in fact are random spam. These emails, though annoying, are a huge problem here at Saint Anselm, and are preying on students in financial distress and hardship. Consider the many emails offering students a job.
