    The first time I saw August Wilson’s play “Jitney,” the dialogue transported me back to 1966, when I lived on Centre Avenue next to Lee’s Floral Shop. A short walk down Elmore Street brought me to Pat’s Place. The corner store, surviving hard times, transformed from a cigar shop to a jitney stand where streetwise men gathered in conversation, frequently hunched over a game of checkers.
