Trina Goggins grew up in a food desert on the city's West End with little access to the fruits and vegetables typically found in a grocer's produce aisle. “If it didn't come in a can, I didn't know how to cook it,” she said. Today, she grows her own food in The Hood Garden, a full-blown horticultural experiment on her property in Homewood. She laughed as she explained its name. “It's a garden and I'm in the ’hood, so why not?” she said.
