ON 27 APRIL, the London-born Italian teenager Carlo Acutis will be made a saint. Acutis died of leukemia in 2006 at the age of 15 and will become the Catholic Church’s first millennial saint. To be canonised as a saint in the Church, at least two miracles need to be attributed to a person after their death. Acutis, who died in Monza, Italy but was buried in Assisi, has been dubbed “the patron saint of the internet” and “God’s influencer”.

THERE ARE LONG delays around Ballymount and Tallaght after a bin lorry fire earlier this afternoon. The lorry caught fire on the R838 Bóthar Katharine Tynan, and the road was closed between the M50 and Sylvan Drive. Firefighters have since extinguished the fire and the road has been cleared and reopened but motorists have been advised that long delays remain in the area.

DERRY FASHION DESIGNER Jonathan Anderson has been confirmed as the new artistic director of Dior menswear. Anderson, the son of former Irish rugby international Willie Anderson, is known as a low-key figure, who often appears dressed casually at the end of his shows. In an Instagram post today, Anderson posted a Dior label accompanied by a four-leaf clover to confirm the news.

THE PUBLIC HAS been reminded of the need to be cautious around water ahead of the Easter break. Easter is traditionally the time when many sailors and motorboat users take their craft out of storage and begin their season. And with water temperatures still being relatively cold at this time of year, any planning on going for an open water swim is being reminded of the risk of cold water shock when entering the water.

HOZIER HAS BEEN named on Time magazine’s list of “100 Most Influential People” in 2025. He joins US president Donald Trump, Elon Musk and rapper Snoop Dogg on the list. Time said the list focuses on “individuals who are transforming the world” and it includes six members of the Trump administration, the largest contingent from a political administration since Barack Obama arrived in Washington in 2009.
