Diego Bonilla·Follow5 min read·--Text processing or natural language processing (NLP), transforms raw textual data into a structured format that neural networks can interpret and analyze. The primary challenge in handling textual data arises from its inherent unstructured nature, high dimensionality, and linguistic complexity. Tokenization is the process of converting raw text into smaller units called tokens.

Long time no see... 2024 has been a tremendous year for AI. The on the rise trend doesn't seem to end any soon. Image generation, LLMs, Computer Vision, ... every model is getting bigger, more efficient and smarter at the same time. Long gone are the one-task models and the no-free-lunch theorem. The hype is now at multimodal fundational models that can even be executed on phones to perform some unnecesary task that no-one asked for. But, hey! It's AI! Everybody loves AI, right?

Neural networks are versatile tools capable of modeling a wide range of data types, from time series to images and text. At the heart of these mini-brains are the humble and often underappreciated activation functions. While some (bad people) might dismiss these functions as mere technical details, this article will demonstrate their pivotal role in shaping how neural networks process information.
