    The first time I stepped foot in Waco was for Baylor orientation when I was 18 years old. I had already enrolled despite not seeing the campus or the city before — Baylor had been one of only two schools I applied to, after all (and I can’t tell you if that was confidence, naivety or just a lot of hope). For better or worse, Waco would be my home for the next four years. But then, four years turned into seven (if we’re skipping the year I spent interning in DFW).

    The Midway boys' basketball team fell 52-33 to Hallsville in the semifinal contest of the MT Rice tournament Saturday afternoon as the Panthers couldn't match up to the Bobcats' length in the post. Freshman guard Gus Mills led Midway (10-10, 1-1) in the scoresheet with seven points while Hallsville senior guard Grayson Magestro and sophomore center David Baliraine each put up 13 points for the Bobcats.

    The Midway boys’ basketball advanced in the winners’ bracket of the M.T. Rice Tournament following a 50-45 win over Tomball on Friday. Midway (10-9) will play Hallsville at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the MHS arena gym in the tournament semifinals. Should the Panthers win that one, they'd play for their first MT Rice title since 1983 against the winner of Austin Westlake and College Park at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

    Midway girls advance in MT Rice gold bracketThe Midway Pantherettes picked up two wins in Pool D of the M.T. Rice girls’ basketball bracket to advance against the winner of Pool A. Midway started the day with a 59-40 victory over McKinney, getting ahead with a 12-7 first quarter and not relinquishing the lead throughout.
