AbstractNovel two-dimensional semiconductor crystals can exhibit diverse physical properties beyond their inherent semiconducting attributes, making their pursuit paramount. Memristive properties, as exemplars of these attributes, are predominantly manifested in wide-bandgap materials. However, simultaneously harnessing semiconductor properties alongside memristive characteristics to produce memtransistors is challenging.

A technique based on a scanning tunnelling microscope can provide simultaneous control, visualization and spectroscopic characterization of quantum states with atomic resolution. Being able to directly address the details of a quantum state as a function of device operating conditions is of use in the exploration of exotic phases in correlated systems and the development of integrated quantum systems that coherently control and measure individual qubits1,2.

1 Introduction Recent advances in twistronics[1] have enabled the exploration of an extremely diverse set of quantum phases. They include unconventional superconducting ground states, correlated insulating phases as well as integer and fractional Chern insulating states.[2-18] These phases form due to strong correlations in a flat band environment that possesses non-trivial topological characteristics and offers a pool of nearly degenerate electronic states.
