MADERA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Trump administration’s plan to close a number of U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) offices across California, including one in Madera, will no longer go forward as planned after the intervention of Senator Adam Schiff. Schiff announced on Monday that the Trump administration’s plan to close nine of the USDA offices has been scaled back, with eight of the offices slated for closure not going forward.

(KSEE/KGPE) – The City of Fresno is among the locations “defying Federal immigration law,” according to the Department of Homeland Security, one of 63 California cities to appear on a list of sanctuary jurisdictions. The City of Fresno is one of three Central Valley cities to appear on the list, the others being Madera and Huron.

MADERA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The City of Madera has joined the City of Fresno in refuting claims made by the federal Department of Homeland Security that it is also a sanctuary jurisdiction. In a statement to YourCentralValley.com, the City of Madera said it was “surprised” to see its name on a list entitled “Sanctuary Jurisdictions Defying Federal Immigration Law” published by Homeland Security.

(KSEE/KGPE) – A woman who was killed in a crash that grazed the side of a Sanger Police motorcycle over the weekend was identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday. The coroner’s office identified the driver who was killed as 38-year-old Dorothy Fuller from Fresno. According to the CHP, officers responded to Highway 180 and Del Rey Avenue, just north of Sanger, for a deadly crash on Saturday.

PORTERVILLE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The animal shelter in Porterville will no longer be open on Saturdays, according to the city’s police department. This is due to what officials say is a “nearly non-existent” number of visitors going into the facility on that day. According to the police department, efforts to better serve the animal-loving citizens of Porterville led to the Porterville Animal Shelter adjusting its hours to be open on Saturdays.
