May 9-Eric Fedde is on the mound for the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday to start Game 1 of a three-game weekend series with the Washington Nationals. He comes into the game looking for his third win and currently has a 2-3 record on the year. Fedde, who played for the Nationals from 2017 to 2022, got the win in his last outing May 4, against the New York Mets at Busch Stadium. He threw five innings, gave up six hits, three earned runs and issued five walks while striking out four.

The St. Louis Cardinals begin a nine-game, three-city road trip Friday, and the first stop is Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. The Cardinals are scheduled to play three games in the nation’s capital, and then they will head to Philadelphia for three with the Phillies and then come back to the Show-Me State for a three-game rivalry series with the Kansas City Royals.

May 8-Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, an American from Chicago, Illinois, has been selected as the new leader of the Catholic church. He is the first American selected to become pontiff. He has chosen the name Pope Leo XIV, according to multiple reports, including the Associated Press, as his papal identity. His selection to the Catholic church's top seat came on just the fourth vote and second day of the conclave.

May 8-Injured St. Louis Cardinals catcher Ivan Herrera could be activated within the next 24 hours or so and rejoin his big league teammates in the nation's capital to kick off a three-city road trip beginning with the Washington Nationals. According to several Cardinals beat writers, Herrera's return from a bruised knee bone injury is all but official after St. Louis optioned first baseman/designated hitter Luken Baker down to the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds.
