Metro-East Lutheran's challenging two-week baseball schedule got off to a tough start. The Knights lost 3-2 to East Alton-Wood River on April 21 in Edwardsville. A week earlier, Metro-East Lutheran won the first meeting of the season between the two teams 11-0 in Wood River. The loss ends a six-game winning streak for the Knights, who are now 9-5 on the season. The Oilers are 6-11. East Alton-Wood River scored two runs in the top of the sixth to take a 3-1 lead.

A Little Taste of Heaven Bakery in Maryville has new owners, but the list of tasty treats filling its cases is comfortingly familiar. Sisters Katie Robbins and Jennifer Sedlacek are the new owners of the bakery, taking over on April 2 from Lindsey Wulfing, who was the owner for eight years. Overall, they are the fourth set of owners for A Little Taste of Heaven, which opened in 2011 on Hillsboro Avenue in Edwardsville.

On a day that Father McGivney debuted its on-campus track and field facility, the school's community joined together to remember Brandon Ahring. A 2021 graduate of Father McGivney and an assistant coach for the track and field and cross country teams, Ahring died in a one-vehicle car accident on Interstate 55 on April 16 near Hamel. He was 22 years old. Following Father McGivney's first home track and field meet on April 21, a candlelight vigil was held in memory of Ahring.

An official record book is now set for Father McGivney's on-campus track and field. The Griffins hosted their first track and field meet at their new facility that encompasses the turf soccer field on April 21 in Glen Carbon. "It's an amazing facility," Father McGivney coach Jim Helton said. Metro-East Lutheran, Maryville Christian and O'Fallon First Baptist Academy joined Father McGivney for the quadrangular meet. It was a sweep for the Griffins, who both boys and girls meets by hefty margins.

Father McGivney Catholic High School debuted its on-campus track and field facility on April 21 in Glen Carbon. Prior to a quadrangular boys and girls track and field meet, a 15-minute dedication and blessing took place on the track that encompasses the artificial turf soccer field. Among the speakers were Father McGivney Principal Joe Lombardi, The Rev. Jeffrey Goeckner, pastor of St. Boniface Church in Edwardsville and president of Father McGivney Catholic High School, and Doug Villhard.
