Berlin taz | Der jüngste beteiligte Weltkriegsveteran war 99 Jahre alt, den Befehl zum Abmarsch gab ein 100-Jähriger. Die Militärparade im Herzen Londons, die am Montag die britischen Gedenkfeiern zum 80. Jahrestag der Kapitulation Nazideutschlands am 8. Mai 1945 einläutete, war wohl die letzte in Großbritannien mit direkter personeller Kontinuität zum Zweiten Weltkrieg. Umso mehr steht in dieser britischen Gedenkwoche auch politische Kontinuität im Vordergrund.
