    US popular newsbrand has launched its first app backed by a 65-strong dedicated team at parent company Dotdash Meredith. The launch of the app comes just over three years after tech publisher Dotdash acquired US magazine giant Meredith for $2.8bn. CEO Neil Vogel told Press Gazette the People app is like nothing else on the market and will offer readers of the popular news title a completely different experience from its website, social media platforms and existing digital edition.

    President of The Economist Luke Bradley-Jones has revealed how he plans to steer the 183-year-old title through the era of generative AI. The former Disney+ general manager for EMEA joined The Economist as president and managing director in the summer of 2024. The UK-based global newsbrand reported revenue of £367m (down 3%) for 2024 and operating profit of £47.4m (up 12%). It has total subscribers of 1.2 million, some 800,000 of which are digital.

    Press Gazette’s investigation into fake experts being widely quoted in the national press has prompted a huge reaction from the PR industry. Meanwhile various publishers are understood to be reviewing content and policies in the wake of the story, and the BBC has removed one article altogether from its archive. One national publisher has called all its freelance contributors alerting them to the dangers raised by the Press Gazette piece.

    CNN news anchor Richard Quest is one of a number of high-profile figures whose names and reputations are being hijacked to promote a dubious investment group on Facebook. Facebook receives advertising revenue by promoting the fraudulent group and appears to have taken little action to curb it. Press Gazette was alerted to the scam after seeing a promotion for the Richard Wealth Guide on Facebook which included a picture of Richard Quest.
