The National Garden Scheme in North Powys is having its first village and group opening of the season this Saturday (May 17). The event will take place in Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, about nine miles west of Oswestry. The village's garden club will be opening the day with their popular annual plant sale from 9.30am at the Village Hall. That will be followed from noon to 5pm by the chance to visit five very different local gardens, open to visitors from midday.

West Mercia Police said the arrests came after the search of a car near Oswestry yesterday afternoon (Sunday, May 11). A statement from the force said: "Officers pulled over a car believed to be acting suspiciously in Welsh Frankton at around 5.40pm before carrying out a search of the vehicle. "During the search, officers found a quantity of drugs, as well a machete and what is believed to be a firearm. All have been seized by police.
