Ice and crash cause road closures on major Powys routes (Image: PA) A main road through Powys is closed this morning after a crash, while another has been left impassable by bad weather. The A483 between Llanbister and Llanbadarn Fynydd after a crash earlier this morning, Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed. The crash occurred at about 6.30am. Meanwhile, the A44 at Llangurig is closed in both directions because of ice and snow, according to Traffic Wales.

Hundreds sign petition calling for Llanidloes Leisure Centre to stay open (Image: Google.) A petition calling for Llanidloes to keep its leisure centre has been signed by hundreds of people within hours of being launched. The Change.org petition claims that closing the town's leisure centre, in Llangurig Road, would "negatively impact the wellbeing, health, and quality of life for thousands of residents in our town and neighboring communities".

Powys County Council announced on Friday that it was considering four options for the future of leisure provision in the county, more than one of which suggested disposing of centres that are not part of the five-town Sustainable Powys model that is in development.

Stewart Lee (Image: Yui Mok/PA) British comedy icon Stewart Lee has become the first name on the line-up for next year's Machynlleth Comedy Festival. The cult comic, who regularly performs sell-out tours in large venues across the UK, will perform three dates at the influential annual festival in Powys. His new show, Stewart Lee vs The Man Wulf, will be performed on Friday, May 2 and 6.30pm, Saturday, May 3 at 1.30pm, and Sunday, May 4 at 1.30pm.

Storm Ashley is expected to bring strong winds to mid Wales this weekend, with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning. While Scotland is set to be battered by 80mph gusts of wind when the storm arrives on Sunday, the conditions are not expected to be quite so gusty in mid Wales. But it is expected to be strong enough to bring gusts of up to 45mph to parts of Powys including Welshpool and Newtown.
