A man is facing multiple charges after a major illegal firearm operation was allegedly uncovered during a raid at his home. The “clandestine firearm manufacturing bolthole” in the NSW Blue Mountains was uncovered by NSW Police during an investigation into the importation and manufacture of 3D printed firearms and firearm parts, 3D computer aided designed software, and other privately manufactured firearms.

A man is in critical condition after being shot by NSW Police during a welfare check. Officers arrived at a cabin on Macarthur Rd at Elderslie — in Sydney’s southwest — about 12.15pm on Thursday when the 52 year-old-man made threats to self-harm while armed with a knife. A standoff ensued, with negotiators attempting to speak with the man.

A major health warning has been issued after three people were hospitalised with Legionnaires’ disease in NSW. Three people living in Potts Point, in central Sydney, have recently developed the disease. The people, aged in their 40s to 70s, are not known to each other.

Four cars have been torched in a shocking arson attack on a home where 11 people, including an infant, were sleeping. The cars and a garage were set alight on Burnell St in Russell Lea, in Sydney’s inner west, at about 2.30am on Thursday. The 11 people inside the home, ranging in age from just two weeks old to 71-years-old, escaped the home and were not injured. Winter has come and chilly conditions have set in, but those looking forward to summer are being warned that not all sunscreens are equal when they slip, slop, slap. Consumer advocacy group Choice tested 20 sunscreens with SPF 50 or 50+ labels and found only four met the criteria. “Consumers expect sunscreen to protect them in line with the SPF rating on the product, but as our testing has shown, the SPF label doesn’t always match what’s in the bottle,” the group’s CEO Ashley de Silva said.
