The 6th grade class of the Mt. Tipton Elementary School recently participated in the school’s annual celebration of the founding of the community’s trail system. Here is a re-cap of the history of the Dolan Springs Trail System as presented by Mohave County District 4 Supervisor Don Martin to the class. In 2008, under the watchful eye and encouragement of local resident Sue “Itchy Foot” Baughman, the Dolan Springs Trail System project started with a donation of 480 acres of public land.

The Kingman Elks Lodge #468 held signups for the upcoming Fishing For Smiles youth fishing program on Saturday, at the Smith’s grocery store in Kingman, and according to chairman Fred Hearring, 132 youth were signed up by eight Elks volunteers. The annual fishing event, which will be held on May 17 at the Dunton Ranch Pond, will be co-sponsored by the Mohave Sportsman Club, with support by the Arizona Game & Fish Department and local businesses and individuals.

Micah Jones is well known in local and regional bass circles as an angler who gets its done in almost every tournament he enters. I met Jones and was able to fish with him in the past on Lake Mead as part of a local bass club tournament. Jones showed me a “run and gun” style of fishing that I didn’t know. For the past several years I have been looking for an engine to replace the one I had on my 24-foot pontoon boat that I used for my night-time striper fishing trips on Lake Mead.
