And invading the Crusaders home turf Tuesday afternoon was Christian, ranked No. 1 in the section. By virtue of a 3-1 win over MDC last month, the Patriots owned bragging rights.

    When he was a young boy, about 5 years old, Oskar Rouse was fixated on a ceiling fan in the family’s Clairemont living room. He would stare at the blades for minutes at a time, his head turning round and round. ”I told him to stop,” said Rouse’s father, Richard. But Oskar continued to be mesmerized, staring at the rotating blades. Richard was an avid tennis player and one of his friends offered a suggestion that might stop Oskar from staring at the fan.

When it comes to training, Atkin said: “I’m one of those athletes that needs to be reined in.”But when healthy, watch out.

    Carlsbad 5000What: The county’s most popular 5K is expected to draw nearly 8,000 joggers, talented age-groupers and professionals competing in a series of races. It’s the 39th edition of the event. Schedule: The men’s masters race starts at 7 a.m. Sunday. The men’s pro race starts at 12:30 p.m., with the women starting at 12:35 p.m. The Junior Carlsbad 1-mile race starts at 11:45 a.m., and the Junior Carlsbad ½-mile starts at noon. Prize money: $20,000.
