1. IntroductionObstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterized by repeated upper airway obstruction, leading to intermittent hypoxia, fluctuations in intrathoracic pressure, and sleep disruption. The recurrent episodes of apnea and hypopnea during sleep trigger intermittent hypoxia, significant intrathoracic pressure fluctuations, and the activation of the sympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system (ANS).
