A 12-m-diameter gold concentrate thickener for an East Africa-focused gold producer, developer and explorer is currently undergoing a capacity- expansion upgrade by the plant’s original-equipment manufacturer (OEM) DELKOR, to double its output volumes following a request by the client to upscale their ore processing dimension of operations. DELKOR, a part of mining equipment OEM TAKRAF Group, commissioned the thickener and flocculant plant for the Tanzanian gold miner over the past two years.

As a testament to Namibia being a Tier 1 mining jurisdiction, specialty minerals miner SQM has partnered with critical raw materials producer Andrada Mining, contributing a $20-million investment to expand the development of the Namibia-based Lithium Ridge project, where exploration drilling in 2023 confirmed 6 km worth of lithium mineralisation at surface continuing at depth.

The only refined copper processing plant in Namibia – Tschudi – has been restarted and is currently producing London Metals Exchange (LME) Grade-A copper cathode in Namibia for the first time in four years. Constructed in 2015, Tschudi is host to Namibia’s only LME-grade refined copper processing facility, having produced over 80 000 t of LME Grade-A copper cathode up until 2020, when it was placed on care and maintenance.

Unveiled in mid-September, equipment maker Caterpillar’s (Cat’s) new energy management system – Dynamic Energy Transfer (DET) – offers the ability to transfer electrical energy to both diesel-electric and battery-electric large mining trucks while they are working around a mine site, giving operators the ability to further the rollout of electric drive systems as mines modernise and look to electric drive mobility.
