Moto boots and Doc Martens have replaced the mirage of cowboy boots usually seen on the festival grounds. Where white, pastels and tans used to own the color game, black has crept in. We’re no longer boho cowgirl, we’re so in the future. And there can only be one culprit. The dark queen of pop, the purveyor of personality, the queen to all monsters: Lady Gaga.

Representing schools located along the 27 miles of the 605 Freeway in Los Angeles County, 500 students from three separate school districts joined forces for a march down Colorado Boulevard during the 136th Rose Parade, adorned in freeway-themed uniforms. On Wednesday morning, Jan. 1, singers Kiesza and Aloe Blacc will kick off the 2025 Rose Parade with musical performances atop the float by Honda, where they’ll be accompanied by a synchronized light show, pyrotechnics and dancers galore. The Tournament of Roses announced the pair on Dec. 11 as the newest musical talents to begin the parade, a slot held by David Archuleta, Cassadee Pope, Michelle Williams and Rush Davis during last year’s parade.
