    Thanks for being a member of City Paper! It was a dreary night in Adams Morgan on Nov. 21—the air was cold and the ground was wet from the rain. Despite the weather, there was a lively scene in a small store on the northern end of Champlain Street NW. Tiny Vinyl Shop, a record store with an apt name that owner Ty Cumbie opened only four and a half months ago, was packed front to back with dozens of people.

    Thanks for being a member of City Paper! The first line on Halpine’s debut LP, “I’ve got to know if you’ll be around when the big bomb drops down,” doesn’t feel as much like foreboding as a comfortable inevitability. The mostly solo project of Joey Bentley is reminiscent of the type of bedroom recording that became de rigueur in the early Pitchfork era. The sound itself doesn’t suffer from any lo-fi trappings.

    Thanks for being a member of City Paper! Graphic artist Maurice James Jr. is reimagining Black history through art. Although his career only started in 2021, he’s become quite prolific during those three years. By March of 2023, he was displaying his work at three overlapping exhibits, and this year he was the first artist to be featured in Homme Gallery’s new location inside Union Station; he even did a show earlier this month in Oakland, California.

    Thanks for being a member of City Paper! Painting is so integral to local artist Roderick Turner’s life that you’ll hardly ever find him not working on his art. Even in mid-conversation, it’s likely he’ll pull out his supplies and begin a new project—something he did while speaking with City Paper for this article.

    Thanks for being a member of City Paper! Commuters traveling through Union Station are about to experience something new. Currently known for its slate of fast food offerings and a handful of shops, it is one of the busiest train stations in the country and it’s about to be the home of D.C.’s third Homme Gallery location.
