Ameren Illinois reports a tree that fell onto a power line Tuesday morning was responsible for a power outage that impacted about 2,000 customers in portions of North Alton and Godfrey. It happened around 7:15am and impacted customers mostly along the West Delmar corridor. The tree fell into power lines near Fairmount Avenue and McKinley Boulevard in Alton. Power for most customers was restored before 9:00am.

Rain won the day on April 26, so the annual Arbor Day celebration in Godfrey has been rescheduled for this Saturday, May 10. Just like the schedule for the first attempt, the day will include a fishing derby with registration at 9am, and later a memorial tree dedication at Glazebrook Park, starting at 1:30pm. Godfrey Park and Recreation Director Chris Logan tells the Big Z the ceremony will be held at the concession stand area, and you are encouraged to get there early and bring a lawn chair.

Alton Police responded to a shots fired report Tuesday night in an area near Alton Square Mall. Officers arrived around 9:30pm and located a female who said she was a having a dispute with her boyfriend who was apparently armed with a handgun. She said during the dispute, he fired one gunshot but no one was injured. Officers began an investigation and located the man who was then taken into custody.

The Bethalto Mayor Gary Bost tells The Big Z his new term will focus on at least one item that will bring connectivity to the village. Your browser does not support the audio element.
