    Former Missouri Governor and U.S. Senator Christopher “Kit” Bond has died. He was just 33 years old when he was elected governor in 1972 and later served four terms in the U.S. Senate. Bond died Tuesday at the age of 86. Bond, a Republican, was elected Missouri State Auditor in 1971, and ran for governor and won that race in 1972, becoming the youngest person in state history to hold that office.

    Ameren Illinois reports a tree that fell onto a power line Tuesday morning was responsible for a power outage that impacted about 2,000 customers in portions of North Alton and Godfrey. It happened around 7:15am and impacted customers mostly along the West Delmar corridor. The tree fell into power lines near Fairmount Avenue and McKinley Boulevard in Alton. Power for most customers was restored before 9:00am.

    One person is dead, another injured in a double shooting in Washington Park earlier this morning. Illinois State Police report two men were shot, and one died at the scene in the 2200 block of Kingshighway. The other person was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Washington Park Police were called to the area around 3:40am where they found the victims and assistance was requested from State Police.

    The first Alton Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market of the season on Saturday set a new record. Over 180 booths were set up on the lot at Henry Street and Landmarks, drawing a couple thousand shoppers by some estimates on a nearly perfect weather day. The market is set up every Saturday from 8am-noon through October 18th rain or shine. Last season saw vendor numbers topping 100 most weeks.

    Wood River will be kicking off summer this Saturday in the downtown area. The event will feature food trucks, activities, and a dunk tank for a small fee with the mayor, police chief and a city council member as targets. The money raised will help cover the cost of the event.
