On November 15, Livermore lost another highly publicized case in Superior Court involving Livermore City Council’s voter suppression activities. It was completely avoidable. Citizens for Balanced Growth, a community organization, has a long history of witnessing poor decisions by elected officials, even when they are fully apprised of exposure to legal defeat. Our first experience was in 1998, when the Zone 7 Water Board considered serving customers outside its legal boundary.

As a Livermore resident, I actually enjoyed reading a Dubliner's thoughts last week, "Why I Like Dublin, California". The letter proudly proclaimed the virtues of Dublin's high density living and celebrated the addition of more development to come. A new EIGHT-STORY downtown building will be a feature, not a bug. Such a perspective is a reminder that some people prefer this sort of lifestyle, even if it is not our idea of tranquility.

OK everyone, we’re starting to receive the Council candidate mailers in Livermore. Let’s take a look at District 4. Tom Soules and Kristie Wang are the candidates. Since December, I have been asking candidate Wang about specific actions she would take as a council member. I wanted to hear something besides ambiguous generalizations, but all I ever seemed to get was ??? The mailers make things clear; do we want more high-rise towers like Legacy in the middle of downtown?
