HARRISON, N.J. — Improving its defense will be Atlanta United’s focus when the team reconvenes for training Thursday, manager Ronny Deila said after Saturday’s 2-0 loss at the New York Red Bulls. “You cannot concede two goals every game,” Deila said. “That’s impossible. We make too many simple mistakes, and that is my biggest worry.

A temporary change of scenery may be just what two of Atlanta United’s underperforming Designated Players need, manager Ronny Deila said after Saturday’s 2-0 loss at New York Red Bulls. The Five Stripes were shut out for the seventh time. Striker Emmanuel Latte Lath, bought for $22 million before the season, failed to score for the 10th consecutive match. He was called up by Ivory Coast for friendlies against New Zealand on June 7 and Canada on June 10, according to Deila.

HARRISON, N.J. — Atlanta United’s modest win streak was snapped and its futility at Red Bulls continued with a 2-0 loss on Saturday at Sports Illustrated Stadium. The Five Stripes, playing their third match in seven days, gifted the Red Bulls a goal within the first five minutes. That was all the hosts needed as Atlanta United fell to 0-6-3 in Harrison. The Five Stripes were shut out for the seventh time. They put three shots on goal, one fewer than Red Bulls, and finished with 0.7 expected goals.

Atlanta United has yet to win on the road this season. It has yet to win at Red Bull Arena in franchise history. So manager Ronny Deila said defeating New York (7-6-3) on Saturday in Harrison, New Jersey, would be “massive” for Atlanta United (4-7-5), which is carrying a two-game win streak into the first of six consecutive matches away from Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

While Atlanta United’s midfielders and wingbacks are thriving in the team’s new formation, its two attacking players have yet to find their form. The Five Stripes have scored seven goals in building this season’s first win streak, which continued with Wednesday’s 3-2 victory over Orlando City at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Neither Emmanuel Latte Lath nor Miguel Almiron, the “2″ in the 5-3-2 formation, have scored or assisted on those goals. Latte Lath hasn’t scored in nine matches.
