A pair of students have been unable to prove their unjustified dismissal claims against an upmarket restaurant business in Ōamaru. The first of the teenage women, Bailie Lynch, had worked for Cucina Ōamaru Ltd from June 2021 until November 2023. The second, Jessica Crossley, was employed there from February 2022 until November 2023. Both were secondary school students at the time and worked as “front of house” staff.

Police were forced to flee a dangerous driver at speeds of up to 140kph to avoid being rammed, in an incident that began in Timaru and finished with an arrest in Dunedin. The unmarked patrol car containing two constables was one of at least three police vehicles shadowing the reckless driving exploits of a 49-year-old Timaru man, that had earlier forced the abandonment of police pursuits in Timaru.
