LOTHIAN Buses boss Sarah Boyd indicated that she backed calls for the under-22s bus pass being revoked amid a rise in anti-social behaviour on public transport. According to Boyd some of the behaviour, mostly committed by young people, is “horrendous” but did point out that it is committed by a minority of youngsters. Boyd gave evidence to the Scottish Parliament’s net zero, environment and transport committee.

A BLAZE broke out on a Lothian bus, forcing passengers off as fire crews fought off the flames. The fire – which is being treated as “wilful” by Police Scotland – erupted on a number 44 bus in Wallyford, East Lothian on Monday. Fire crews responded to the incident in the small town with a single engine which arrived shortly after emergency services received the call. The call was made shortly before 8pm on Monday with crews rushing to the scene.

LOCALS have reported a massive surge in the appearance of small plastic ducks across Edinburgh. The ducks have been cropping up in random locations across the city for some time now with initial reports of them first appearing years ago. More recently though, there has been a surge in the plastic fowl cropping up in the capital, with dozens reported in the last few weeks alone.

THE City of Edinburgh Council is reportedly considering asking wealthy residents of the capital to chip in on city projects. Councillors agreed yesterday to look into setting up a fundraising team after it was raised by the Liberal Democrats. Frustration at city projects being delayed or scrapped due to a lack of funds led to the policy being discussed as a solution by the finance and resources committee.

NON-PROFIT Surfers Against Sewage have commenced weekly tests of seawater at Belhaven Bay in Dunbar, East Lothian. The non-profit organisation works across the UK to tackle issues of water quality and was established in 1990. Recently the group has raised over £150,000 which will be used to “hold polluters to account” and “clean up beaches”. In Dunbar, East Lothian, Surfers Against Sewage are beginning a 12-month project which will see them collect samples from the sea weekly.

A POTHOLE that has been repaired after three years is already showing signs of degradation. The shoddy repair job on the B6415 in Musselburgh is reportedly already starting to fall apart with bicycles leaving marks across the still soft tarmac. The pothole has allegedly been on the road for at least three years with locals attempting to get it repaired.

RAVELRIG quarry is due to have planning permission for an extension granted with planning officers recommending that the planning committee accepts a proposal. The planning application will be discussed at a hearing of the City of Edinburgh Council’s planning committee on 30 April. Proposed plans would see an extension of the work at the quarry but will come with a whopping 31 conditions.

POLICE Scotland have issued an appeal after murderer Raymond McCourt, 59, escaped from Castle Huntly prison near Dundee. McCourt was jailed for life in 1993 after murdering a newsagent worker, but escaped from the low supervision prison on Tuesday. Police have issued an appeal to track McCourt who is said to use public transport and has connections in both Edinburgh and Glasgow.
