MIDLOTHIAN Council has broken ground on its latest energy-efficient housing development on the site of the former Danderhall library and leisure centre. Contractor Ogilive Construction is building 23 one-and two-bedroom flats in two blocks along with car parking and access routes, landscaping and a play area on Newton Church Road. Due to be finished by summer 2026, the properties will be among 207 council homes across Midlothian, all designed to the Passivhaus standard.

STAFF at Scottish Water are set to go on a two-day strike from midnight tonight in a continuing row over pay. Strike action will take place across Scotland on Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 April according to public service union UNISON. The two-day walkout follows a one-day strike at the end of last month. The union says that emergency repairs and water quality checks will not be carried out during the action.
