Simmering tensions between the City of Scotts Valley and youth sports leagues over proposed fees hikes boiled over during the April 2 regularly scheduled Council meeting when a girls softball coach teared-up providing public comment. Alexandra Sklar, co-director of Scotts Valley Trouble Fastpitch and board member of Scotts Valley Girls Softball, said she was tapped to step up to the civic plate and deliver a letter to Council because most of the other reps were at Siltanen Park coaching.

Planning Commission voted April 9 to recommend a General Plan amendment to allow 100% affordable housing projects in mixed-use commercial and restricted highway commercial zones. Commissioner Susan Burnett was the lone vote against. She said Los Gatos has been going further than it has to, when it comes to encouraging home builds for lower-income folks. “Do you really think the citizens of Los Gatos are going to be happy with this decision from our Planning Commission?” she asked rhetorically.

As the threat of cuts to millions of dollars in federal government funding looms over the Town of Los Gatos, Council cancelled plans for a new Harvest Festival this fall, during its regularly scheduled meeting April 1. The Town had been considering getting rid of Screen on the Green—an outdoor movie night that has seen declining attendance—and replacing it with the multicultural event.

The names of the two men whose bodies were found in a pickup truck in the Santa Cruz Mountains last month were released Tuesday by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office. The identities of the victims, previously identified by family members, are Colter White, 53, and Sean Pfeffer, 45. Family members said both men lived in Boulder Creek.

On Friday, the Town of Los Gatos filed a lawsuit against two developers in Santa Clara County Superior Court, seeking clarification on State housing rules about deadlines for streamlined projects. The 19-page action against Arya Properties, LLC and Boulevard Properties, LLC seeks “declaratory relief” around builds that received special exceptions because the Town was out of compliance with Housing Element rules for months.
