Protests used to be really something in America. Back in the anti-war 70s, college kids and young adults were protesting continued U.S. involvement in Vietnam, and it was effective enough to alter the direction of the country. Those same hippies are now grandparents and great-grandparents, if they're still alive. You might guess that a lot of their grandkids are the ones protesting Elon Musk and Tesla, Donald Trump, ICE, and whatever else they think is wrong.

D.C. is abuzz with a ton of Trump-hating journalists and politicians all of a sudden learning that national security is a thing about which to be concerned. The Beltway is seizing and pouncing on a story that they believe is an opening to attack Donald Trump, or at least slow down his pace of progress in the first couple of months by slinging mud at his cabinet and senior advisors. The story doesn't interest me in the slightest.

Have you taken a look around today at what's going on? Things are going rather well, economically-speaking. Sure, the stock market didn't like the uncertainty of the impact of tariffs at all, tanking for the better part of a month. But if one just ganders at the economic development and investment committed to begin in the United States due to the threat of tariffs, it's staggering when you start looking at all the zeros after the crooked numbers.

Let me begin by saying this development alone, as much of an admirer of the early work of the Trump administration as I am, I now find myself inverted on the right track/wrong track index. We're headed for big trouble. Back in 1931, J. Wellington Wimpy in the Popeye comics repeatedly tried to mooch off of other customers of Rough House's diner to buy him food. He would say, "Cook me up a hamburger. I'll pay you Tuesday." A year later, it was simplified, and the quote has been used ever since.

You remember the story, right? All of the nation's governors were at the White House for a meeting with Donald Trump on February 22nd, and Maine's Janet Mills stole the show, as it were. Trump, a couple weeks earlier, had signed an executive order to ban biological males from competing in women's sports, and threatened to pull education funding to districts, states, and colleges/universities that did not comply. Enter Governor Mills. She had no intention of complying.
