Now, as part of Bradford City of Culture 2025, the connection is being celebrated in Bassline Symphony, a collaboration between the Orchestra of Opera North, arranger Katie Chatburn and leading bassline artists Jamie Duggan, DJ Q and TS7. The concert has been curated by Tanya Vital, the Yorkshire actor, voiceover artist, playwright, event producer, and founder of Vital Culture UK, an award-winning creative agency.

Comprising Dean Honer, Richard Barrett and Jason Buckle, they had an international dancefloor hit with their song Beat Goes On, while Walk Like a Panther – with lyrics by Jarvis Cocker – took the Steel City crooner Tony Christie into the UK top ten for the first time since 1971. Its follow-up, 1st Man in Space, featuring Phil Oakey of The Human League, also grazed the top 30.

But Cold War Steve has something rather different in mind for a project that he’s working on for the Get Together festival in Sheffield. The collaborative artwork is intended to celebrate the city’s community – and he is seeking suggestions from local people about who and what to include.
