This mini gallery of memories turns back the clock to chart a decade in the life of Morley and its residents. They showcase the news stories making the headlines around the town in the 1920s as well as providing a fascinating bird’s eye view of landmarks and streets during a time mills and quarries dominated the landscape. The photos are published courtesy of the David Atkinson Archive whose collection is housed on photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service.

CrowdedHouse will see £650,000 invested into the city and the creation of 50 new, local jobs. It is due to open in the summer it will seat 500 diners and boasting panoramic views of the city skyline from its balcony terrace area.

The men in our photo from August 1986 are Chris Fawdington, left, tenanted sales manager of John Smith’s Tadcaster brewery and Mike Longbottom, landlord of the newly-named Duchess of York on Vicar Lane. Mr Longbottom and the brewery had been involved in a row over the name for some time.

These photos are sure to evoke memories for former pupils at City of Leeds School. Thousands of pupils were educated down the decades at the school in Woodhouse before it closed in July 2014 .
