The former Bishop of Broome Christopher Saunders has faced court on five new charges of unlawful and indecent assault in WA's far north. Earlier this month, WA Police Child Abuse Squad detectives charged Mr Saunders with the five offences, alleging he had assaulted a 24-year-old man in 2016. Mr Saunders's lawyer Tony Hager told the court he was yet to enter a plea, but said his client was intending to "enter pleas of not guilty" to the new charges at his next court appearance.

The WA Liquor Commission has fined the licensees of two pubs in Derby and their director a total of $140,000. Police told the commission there were more than 2,700 licensing breaches. Spinifex Holdings is subject to further action for the forfeiture of illegal gains. Operators of two pubs in Western Australia's Kimberley have been hit with more than $100,000 in fines after breaching liquor licensing rules more than 2,000 times.

Footage of a man injecting women with what appear to be drugs in a public space in far north Western Australia has sparked concern about a growing prevalence of substance use in the region. The ABC has chosen not to publish the CCTV footage, which shows two women waiting outside a Broome shop in the early hours of Friday morning. A hooded man arrives on a bicycle and has a brief conversation with them before they extend their arms and he injects them using syringes.

A West Australian man who ran over his partner in the driveway of their home, causing her death in 2022, has been sentenced to five years in prison in the WA Supreme Court at Broome. Linton Patrick Sampi, 44, was found not guilty of manslaughter but guilty of the lesser charge of dangerous driving causing death by a jury in September.
