    Columbia’s $17 million deficit and the historic 2024 presidential election have been a large part of the Chronicle’s coverage this year but there were many memorable moments throughout 2024.     October 20, 2024 Tens of thousands of people turned out on Saturday, Oct. 19, for the annual Arts in the Dark parade, a nighttime Halloween parade and festival showcasing the artistic part of the fall holiday. This year marked the 10th anniversary of the “Arts in the Dark” parade, drawing in creative performers from all over the Chicagoland area. Spectators lined both sides of State Street in the Loop from Lake to Van Buren, just blocks away from Columbia’s campus.

    October 3, 2024 Early voting started in Chicago on Thursday, Oct. 3 at two locations in downtown: the Chicago Board of Elections office at 69 W. Washington St. and at the Loop Supersite located at 191 N. Clark St. More locations will follow for all 50 wards on Oct. 21. The Loop Supersite had 100 voting booths, and the board offices had 20. Kathleen Hayes, a Chicago resident, was one of the many early voters that voted at the Loop Supersite.
