Rio Tinto has awarded a $157 million contract to Primero Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of NRW Holdings, for its Hope Downs 1 sustaining project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The contract covers the design, supply, installation, construction, testing commissioning and handover of non-process infrastructure works at Hope Downs 1. MAC Copper’s shares have surged more than 20 per cent over the past five days after announcement of a $US1.03 billion ($1.6 billion) acquisition by Harmony Gold. Under a binding scheme implementation deed, MAC shareholders will receive $US12.25 per share – a 32.1 per cent premium to MAC’s 30-day volume weighted average price (VWAP) of $US9.28 and a 20.7 per cent premium to MAC’s closing share price of $US10.15 on May 23.
