The Renfrew County and District Health Unit is warning of a possible exposure to measles in the communities of Cobden and Petawawa. The Northeastern Public Health Unit says it has identified two cases of measles in residents from the District of Timiskaming. These cases were on board an Ontario Northland Bus that made stops in Cobden and Petawawa.

Those in the Ottawa Valley looking to purchase a cottage this year can expect to be paying more. A recent survey by Royal LePage says that from 2023 to 2024, the price of a single-family recreational property in the Ottawa Valley rose from $438,000 to $476,000, an increase of 8.7 per cent. Among single-family recreational properties, the Ottawa Valley saw the biggest price increase year-over-year across all of Ontario.

Self-proclaimed as the number one beer league hockey team, a group of amateur players from Austria are currently testing themselves against Canadian opposition on an international tour. The Sport Club Fair Play hockey team of Innsbruck, Austria is set to play the Ottawa Selects at the Jim Durrell Recreation Centre on Wednesday. The Sport Club Fair Play hockey team say they are a group made up of amateurs “who are aging too quickly”. The team has almost 40 players between the ages of 25 and 65.

The Arnprior and District Humane Society says it is overwhelmed by the response of the community this week after spring flooding damaged its building. “It’s been phenomenal and it just makes us so lucky to be in this community,” said AHS vice-president Jan Smith. “They’re so generous, so kind.”On Sunday night, ground water flooded into the shelter on Didak Drive in Arnprior, pooling up to ankle depth on the building’s east side.

Ontario Health Minister Sylvia Jones will be in Renfrew on Thursday afternoon to celebrate five years of Renfrew County’s Virtual Triage and Assessment Centre (RC VTAC). The program was started in the early days of the COVID pandemic by the Renfrew County Paramedic Service to fill gaps in the healthcare system, specifically addressing the needs of residents without a family doctor. It’s a program that was founded in the Ottawa Valley, which took pressure off local hospital emergency rooms.
