Gill St. Bernard’s completed a season sweep of rival Rutgers Prep on Saturday, capturing a 52-46 win in the Somerset County Tournament title game at Montgomery. Gill St. Bernard’s, the No. 5 ranked team in the NJ.com Top 20, beat No. 12 Rutgers Prep in a pair of regular season meetings, too. The Knights played with an attack-the-basket-first mentality throughout the opening quarter. It allowed them to take an early lead that was quickly erased by smart shooting from Rutgers Prep.

There are a couple of staples to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women’s basketball. Die-hards know that can be a lengthy list, but two people who are synonymous with MAAC women’s basketball are Lynn Milligan and Tricia Fabbri, the respective veteran head coaches of Rider University and Quinnipiac University. What most don’t know is that their personal rivalry — and friendship — began as young high schoolers in the 1980s.

LAWRENCEVILLE — When Rider women’s basketball coach Lynn Milligan is on the recruiting trail she can immediately tell if a player will fit into Rider’s “Heart And Soul” culture. When she learned Camryn Collins came from a wide family of athletes, she knew that work ethic and competitiveness would not be something she’d need to teach. Collins is one of the program’s newest members, and has started all but one game this season.

With no score at halftime between ninth-seeded Brearley and third-seeded Middlesex, it seemed that whichever team scored first could secure enough momentum to end up victorious in the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 1 boys soccer final. Midway through the second half, Brearley, which has had to deal with injuries to key players like senior midfielder David Lopes and others this season, first found the back of the net courtesy of a ball from senior midfielder Evan Scaff.

Point Pleasant Beach has won three straight Central Jersey Group I sectional titles.Dylan ManfreThird-seeded Point Pleasant Beach had a rare opportunity midway through the second half of the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 1 final against top-seeded Metuchen on Thursday in Metuchen. The Garnet Gulls had a sequence of back-to-back-to-back corner kicks. All three were inserted by sophomore midfielder Katie Kirchner, but the first two were not converted.
