It was another ranked opponent for the Emporia High baseball team to face in the Emporia Baseball Classic at Soden’s Grove on Saturday afternoon. Basehor-Linwood, ranked fourth in Class 5A, allowed the Spartans to one hit in an 8-0 victory. The Bobcats set the tone early with six runs in the first two innings and added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Chase Harrington collected the lone hit for the Spartans. Emporia High coach Anthony Markowitz said the Spartans ran into a great team.

The Emporia High softball team needed just three innings to finish the Emporia Softball Classic 2-0 on Saturday against Life Prep, 16-1. The Lady Spartans scored nine of their 16 runs in the first inning. Highlighting the first inning included a 2-run double by Bailey Schlesener, a 2-run triple by Yzabel Ultreras and a 2-run inside the park home run by Adreil Aguillar. Atlyn Heffron went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Heffron said it was great to get another win.

The season came to an end for the Emporia High boys tennis team at regionals in DeSoto on Saturday. Both singles players, Brecken Hines and Tegan Mitchell, had their seasons end in the first round. Mitchell lost his match, 6-0, 6-0, while Hines lost his match, 6-2, 6-1. The doubles team of Micah Mischke and Ricky Macias lost their first round match, 6-2, 6-0. Brock Malone and Aiden Sanchez lost their first round match, 6-0, 6-0. All six Spartans will return for the 2026 season.

Heading into Friday’s game in the Emporia Baseball Classic, the Emporia High baseball team knew it had its hands full with the eighth ranked team and defending runners-up in Class 5A, Spring Hill. Having already played a difficult schedule, the Spartans learned from miscues earlier in the season to hang on for a 5-4 victory over the Broncos. The Spartans struck early with a 2-0 lead after one, highlighted by an RBI single by Madden Seidl.

It was a special day in the circle for Emporia High junior Alivia Barrett Friday night at Peter Pan Park against Wichita West in the Emporia Softball Classic. Barrett recorded eight strikeouts, including her 100th of the season in a 16-0 run-rule victory over the Pioneers. Earlier this season, Barrett recorded her 200th career strikeout. Barrett allowed two hits, both coming in the first inning. Barrett said it was a rewarding moment of the season, accomplishing a season milestone.
