Our lives are marked by times and seasons. This morning my wife and I changed the sheets on our bed from the cotton blend sheets of summer to the fleecy sheets of winter. Every night when I slip into bed I will be reminded that it’s a different season. Other season markers we grow up with are summer and winter uniforms at school and different sports played at different times of the year – although that seems to have changed as both rugby league and cricket seem to go on forever these days.

The Rotary Club of Narrabri paid tribute to servicemen and women at its annual commemorative Anzac dinner at the RSL in April. President Jocellin Jansson welcomed Narrabri RSL Sub-branch representative Gary Mason OAM to the Rotary commemoration. Mr Mason again delivered an informative talk to the dinner gathering. He was joined at the meeting by other members of the sub-branch and local ex-service personnel.

Narrabri Shire Council’s biosecurity co-ordinator, Clare Felton-Taylor, and biosecurity officer Aaron Cross were guest speakers at the April meeting of Narrabri Garden Club. Clare and Aaron spoke about the wide range of invasive cacti that have potential to do immense damage to property and livestock if left uncontrolled. They brought along many samples and photos of different cacti, and advised that everyone has a general duty to ensure identification and eradication of these biosecurity threats.

The Old Blues Foundation are still getting together after 15 years of weekly coffee catchups, which all began at the home of Barry Ford. The story started when veteran rugby league player Barry, together with Doug Heiler and Terry Wilson, decided to support their former team mate Trevor Druce (dec) who had become unwell with cancer. The trio wanted to get Trevor out of the house to enjoy some camaraderie with old friends.
