Mahon (54) of Breffni Crescent, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim, was accused of assault causing harm to his neighbour Mr Jim Fahy (73) during a barbecue on the evening of August 26, 2021. This morning, Judge John Aylmer, at Carrick-on-Shannon Circuit Court, directed the jury to acquit Mahon owing to the unavailability of two main witnesses. The witnesses had both indicated they did not wish to testify. Judge Aylmer made the direction following an application from the defence to acquit Mahon.
