Approval has been granted to RGM Properties to convert the existing ground floor unit in No. 31, Eyre Square, into a restaurant unit with a bar. The project will also see the construction of an accessible toilet, service bar and further associated works to convert the 144 sqm unit from its previous office function. Located just off Williamsgate Street, the site has previously been used as a Permanent TSB branch and was most recently used as an office for the Galway International Arts Festival.

The Connemara native has been remembered for his “big smile and kindness” and as someone who was “absolutely magical” with dogs. Ahead of his funeral on Saturday, Mr Kelly’s family have requested that all in attendance wear their most colourful outfit for the funeral to represent his “fun, laughter and personality”. Mr Kelly will arrive to Discovery Church at the Small IDA Business Park on the Tuam Road in Galway city on Saturday at 12.30pm.

Mr Kelly’s family have requested that all in attendance wear their most colourful outfit for the funeral to represent his “fun, laughter and personality”. Mr Kelly will arrive to Discovery Church at the Small IDA Business Park on the Tuam Road in Galway city on Saturday at 12.30pm. A service will take place at 1pm, followed by cremation in Shannon Crematorium at 4pm. Mr Kelly, who was aged in his early 30s, died in the fire on Tuesday morning, along with Sonia ‘Sunny’ Jacobs (78).

Sonia ‘Sunny’ Jacobs, aged in her late 70s, spent 17 years on death row over the murder of two police officers. A man in his 30s, understood to be a carer for Ms Jacobs, also lost his life in the fire in Co Galway in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Emergency services were alerted to the fire at a property near Glenicmurrin, Casla, Co Galway, shortly after 6am. It is understood the deceased were the only occupants of the house at the time the blaze broke out.

Robert Francis Prevost became the 267th leader of the Roman Catholic Church on Thursday choosing the name of Leo XIV. Fr Tony Finn of the Galway’s Augustinian Priory said the community was overjoyed but not surprised of Robert Francis Prevost’s election.
