Eberechi Eze is the kind of player who prompts kids to fall in love with football.

Personal opinion: I’d like combat sports to assign a person a weight class based on what that person weighs after a fight camp (ie when conditioned). Not what a fighter thinks he/she can make for a few moments on the scales.

For 9 years it’s been established football wisdom that Marcus Rashford can’t play as a main striker. For Unai Emery to have 27 yearold Rashford excelling in that role at the most elite club level, after two months of coaching, is phenomenal.

Superb free kicks from Declan Rice. Very pressed with how he’s developed that whipped striking of the ball from set pieces. Reminiscent of David Beckham. But we have footage of Beckham nurturing that skill as a boy -it feels like Rice has honed his in adulthood, which is hard.

Watched the Schmeichel do documentary last night on Sky docs. Superb. We may have been bewitched into thinking playmaking keepers are the foundation of the team. But with dominant, agile, aggressive and brave stopping The Great Dane was a hugely disruptive force in football.

Tepid Manchester Derby, reflecting lacklustre seasons for both. United & City might yet perk up their campaigns with a trophy but both surely face a summer of searching for an injection of energy and quality.

Kevin de Bruyne will take a spot in the Premier League pantheon on greats. Arguably the best two-footed passer/crosser since 92. Inspirational tale too as few would have predicted such a level in his early 20s. Like Mo Salah, a beneficiary of the trend away from 4-4-2.

Watched Steve McQueen’s Bullet for the first time last night. Sensational.

Man United trailing Nottingham Forest 1-0 at halftime and conceivably could lose this match. But the team looks so much more fluid, attractive and effective passing movements. Encouraging.

Listening to Joe Hart on the art of goalkeeping & training drills is fantastic. Think perhaps we underuse pundits in not asking about practice drills.

We often use numbers to analyse and judge players these days. But there’s an intangible magic that stats can’t convey - Ebere Eze has that magic imo. He’s a talent in his own right, but for me there is something Gazzaesque about his movement.
