The Republic of Ireland had to settle for a share of the spoils as they drew 1-1 with Senegal at Aviva Stadium. The friendly international saw Heimir Hallgrimsson offer Kasey McAteer and Jack Taylor their first starts in green, and the former repaid the manager with the opening goal in the 21st minute and a man of the match performance.

When Heimir Hallgrimsson took charge of the Republic of Ireland for the first time back in September, he inherited a team, in his opinion, that was lacking in confidence, and struggling by the weight of expectation from wearing the green jersey. The tenure started with two defeats, however, by the time he took the squad on the road a month later, there were already signs that his involvement was having the desired effect.

Perfectly put by a very knowledgeable football person. Don't think there has ever been more TV jobs for former footballers - even the white, middle-aged ones. Not that long ago since Bob Wilson and Jimmy Hill had the only gigs in town.
