Estero's Jake Sherwin caught a Tiger on June 7. Sherwin, playing at the 108th Florida Amateur, was grouped with Charlie Woods for the third round and dropped a hole-in-one at the par 4 fourth hole at the BallenIsles Country Club East Course in West Palm Beach. Watching the whole scene was Charlie's dad Tiger, who celebrated with the former Florida Gulf Coast standout by taking a photo.

Steve Magner has retired from his position as Evangelical Christian's girls soccer coach after 14 seasons. Former FGCU soccer player Melissa (Arnold) Bizier, who served as assistant coach last season, will replace Magner. Bizier played for FGCU from 2011-2014 and was a three-time team captain. Evangelical Christian has said goodbye to longtime girls soccer coach Steve Magner, who decided his 14th season would be his last. But the Sentinels didn't have to look far or long for a replacement.

The News-Press and Naples Daily News are proud to honor area high school sports programs with our annual Southwest Florida High School Sports Awards program. We held our 15th annual awards show on Thursday, May 29 at Suncoast Arena. Throughout the year, The News-Press and Naples Daily News select All-Area team in each FHSAA sport. From those two teams, we combine into one Southwest Florida All-Region Team and select Players of the Year for every sport, and also an overall Male Athlete of the Year.

Evangelical Christian has brought in one of the area's bright, young boys basketball coaching minds to replace one of the area's most successful veterans. The Sentinels introduced former Gateway Charter coach RJ Jones as their coach on Thursday, June 5. Jones succeeds Scott Guttery, who stepped away from coaching after a 114-102 record in eight seasons leading the school.
