An event this weekend in Weedsport will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War. A public commemoration ceremony will be held on Saturday, beginning at 10:00a, at Aqueduct Park in the village (2500 NY 31). The ceremony will be followed by a private reception at noon for Vietnam War era veterans, direct family, and the direct family of deceased Vietnam War era veterans. Two months after moving to Cayuga Community College, the Cayuga County Clerk’s Office will fully open to the public next week. The county has announced that the office will begin accepting walk-ins on Monday. While the clerk’s office will accept walk-ins, it is still recommended that those wishing to utilize its services make an appointment. Appointments can be made by calling 315-253-1271.

One local library is in need of volunteers. The Seymour Library in Auburn is looking for Welcome Ambassadors. Duties include greeting and assisting patrons. An upcoming fundraiser will help the Village of Union Springs get a new scoreboard for its baseball field. Doug’s Fish Fry to Go will be at the Union Springs Fire Department from 11:00a-6:00p on Saturday, May 31. Orders can be made in person; orders can also be placed over the phone until 4:00p by calling 607-753-9184 ext2. The village has said that all funds raised from the event will go to replacing the aging scoreboard at Frontenac Park.

2025 marks the 75th anniversary of the start of the Korean War, and an upcoming lecture in Cayuga County will discuss local contributions to the war effort. Hosted by the Cayuga Museum at its Carriage House Theater, The Korean War, 1950-1954: A 2025 Selective Retrospective will take place on June 4 at 7:00p. At the lecture, Anthony F Gero will use images from local and national resources to tell the story of the major events that shaped the conflict that would birth the Cold War.

Get ready for a luau. The Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce has announced is launching a new event for the summer, a Hawaiian-themed picnic. The district has announced it will hold a Playground Chat from 5:00-7:00p on Wednesday, May 28, at the Elementary Playground. The elementary cafeteria will serve as a rain location. A special event on Saturday will celebrate the hard work that went into preserving a famous Auburn landmark. Cultural Resource Specialist Jessica Bowes will give an in-depth look at the process of preserving the Thompson AME Zion Church. The church was attended by famed abolitionist and suffragist Harriet Tubman while she lived in Auburn, and her funeral was held there in 1913 before she was buried in nearby Fort Hill Cemetery.

A benefit on Thursday in Aurora will help support Southern Cayuga Ambulance. Dugan’s Country Grill (3228 Rt 34B, Aurora) will hold the benefit from 4:00-800p. Attendees can order their favorite items from the menu, with the ambulance service receiving 20% of the food tab. Ambulance crewmembers will also be there to meet with patrons, check blood pressures, and answer any questions the public may have about the group’s operations.
