Conditions permitting, all portions of the New York State Canal system are scheduled to open this Friday, May 16th for the annual navigation season—marking the 201st consecutive year of travel along New York’s Canals and the 200th anniversary of the original Erie Canal’s completion on October 26, 1825. Get ready to run this weekend. In Geneva more than 15-hundred people have signed up to run and walk in the Middle Finger 5K run and walk to benefit Thrive to Survive, a local cancer organization. Thrive to Survive, which has raised more than $1 million since it was founded in 2012, supports adults with cancer in Ontario, Seneca, Wayne and Yates counties. The race begins at 6am near the Finger Lakes Welcome Center. In Seneca Falls Saturday it the Women’s Right to Run.

An icon of Central New York broadcasting has died. Mike Price was 87-years old. Price retired from NewsChannel 9 in 2008, after a 46-year career. He debuted the character of Baron Daemon, which would define him for the rest of his life. He would do appearances and draw hundreds of people to area businesses. Price brought the “good news” to Central New York. His segment closed NewsChannel 9 broadcasts for years, focusing on the light-hearted, happy stories around the community.

NEWS RELEASE –As the academic year draws to a close, four Geneva High School graduates—the latest recipients of scholarships from Geneva Scholarship Associates (GSA)—have engaged with campus and the Geneva community in course work, theatre, athletics and volunteer service during their first year at the Colleges. Lincoln Champlin ’28, Joey Hart ’28, Gerard Humiston ’28, and A.J. Mesmer joined eight GSA scholars currently enrolled at HWS.
